Details: Wooden chairs, steel, plastic, cast latex, plastic tubing, latex tubing, copper tubing, brass plumbing fittings, solenoid valve, submersible pump, water, antifreeze, electrical hardware and components, various wire, lights, conduit, infrared sensor, circuitry and components, pulse electrodes, and miscellaneous hardware. This sculpture relies on the viewers physiological interaction. The spectators heart rate is recognized and latex vessels begin to pulsate in time with his or her heartbeat, utilizing water and a mechanical pump. In my own experience while using the piece, I am made aware of my anatomical systems at work, and compelled to consider my bodys contribution to the operation, as well as my relationship to larger mechanical systems at work around me.
Details: Steel, concrete, latex, plastic, copper tubing, vinyl tubing, submersible pump, aquarium pump, plumbing fittings, water, dyes, electrical fittings, miscellaneous hardware. This sculpture utilizes water and a submersible pump to refer to the action of blood flowing through an externalized vascular system. The formal elements of the tree branch closely resemble that of veins in the body.
